The last of 350 Acura NSX Type S hybrid supercars has been produced at the Honda Motor Plant in Ohio.

The hybrid follower failed to repeat the achievements of the first generation NSX (15 years on the assembly line; 18,685 cars sold worldwide). Despite all the tricks to increase body rigidity and the innovative 9-speed preselective “robot” for that time, the car did not find its buyer: with an initial price of $ 170 thousand, the new NSX could not compete with supercars from Europe.
If the original NSX with “mechanics” weighs 1370 kg, then the hybrid supercar that appeared in 2016 – with dimensions like the Lamborghini Huracan – is all 1725 kg: the car has three heavy electric motors (two on the front and one on the rear axle) and a traction battery with a capacity of 1.3 kWh. And the output of the power plant based on the 3.5 V6 engine with twin turbocharging was not impressive: 581 hp. With. and 645 Nm.
The gray car in the photo is the Type S version, which replaced the base NSX last year. There are different nozzles and increased intercoolers (the return of the internal combustion engine has increased to 527 hp and 600 Nm), front electric motors with shortened gearboxes (there is more torque on the front wheels) and an improved transmission that needs 50% less time to shift gears.
Such a hybrid already produces 608 hp. With. and 667 Nm and laps the Suzuka track two seconds faster than the 2016 car. Acceleration to “hundreds” takes 2.9 s, top speed – 307 km / h.

Of the 350 Type Ss produced, only fifty went outside the United States. Interestingly, the first and last NSX Type S were finished in matte Gotham Gray. The car with the serial number “1/350” in August last year went under the hammer for $ 1.1 million, so the buyer of this gray “two-door” will certainly pay for the car much more than the recommended price.

In six and a half years, 2908 second-generation Acura/Honda NSXs were produced. The hybrid supercar will not have a direct successor: the production line at the Ohio plant will be used to produce 360-horsepower Acura TLX Type S PMC Edition sedans. In total, 300 cars will go on sale (100 copies of the blue, red and white colors that the NSX was previously painted in) at a price of 65 thousand dollars.
