In Los Angeles, Toyota brought not only the fifth generation Prius, but also the bZ Compact SUV Concept, a prototype of a compact electric crossover that is likely to add to the brand’s portfolio in the near future.

Strictly speaking, this is not a world premiere. At the end of 2021, the head of the company, Akio Toyoda, already showed this compact electric crossover among fourteen others as part of a large-scale presentation on the development strategy of Toyota and Lexus until the end of the decade.
Then it was reported that the model with the name bZ Compact SUV will be intended primarily for the markets of Japan and Europe, however, “live” (at the presentation there was a dummy with “deaf” black glasses), the car was first shown to the American public.
There are few technical details about this car yet. It can be assumed that the new bZ will receive the same e-TNGA platform as other Toyota electric vehicles – the bZ4X crossover and the bZ3 sedan for the Chinese market.
The bZ Compact has a long wheelbase with very small overhangs, and some unusual solutions have already been seen on other models of the brand.
In particular, the bZ3 sedan has retractable handles, C-shaped headlights first appeared on the Crown family (they also went to the new Prius), and a steering wheel instead of a conventional steering wheel can already be ordered for the bZ4X and Lexus RZ.
Inside, there is an unusual combination of minimalism and futurism for Toyota: curved displays, a transmission selector on a “pedestal” with two induction chargers for a smartphone, and trim with eco-friendly materials.

Designers have completely abandoned hardware buttons: you can control the climate control system, media system and other functions using a voice assistant named Yui. If the exterior of the serial crossover undergoes minimal changes relative to the concept, then the interior will most likely be made in the spirit of other models of the brand.

More details about the car Toyota promises to announce in December. However, it is already clear that there will be a compact bZ crossover: the Japanese have previously announced plans to bring five all-electric models to the world market (including the bZ3 and bZ4X mentioned above). It is also known that another battery novelty will be a liftback.
