It can already be recognized that the third generation of Tuareg is unlikely to repeat the success of the previous two. After all, in five years the model sold only a little more than 200 thousand copies, while the former Tuareg sold one and a half times more actively.
The year 2022 is indicative, during which about 36 thousand Touaregs were sold against 95.6 thousand more expensive Porsche Cayennes on the same MLB evo platform. Therefore, the restyled Tuareg was presented after the Cayenne, and received fewer new things: it didn’t deserve it.
In the updated crossover, the matrix optics modules are connected by an LED strip, which can already be considered a proprietary feature of the brand. The updated Touareg is illuminated not only by the front VW logo, but also by the rear: before, German law did not allow this. The shape of the headlights has become more concise, and the taillights are now connected by an LED “jumper”.
Following the Cayenne, the model also tried on the new Hella SSL HD matrix optics, which can draw hints on the roadway and do not dazzle other drivers. However, Tuareg still has fewer LEDs in one block than the most popular Porsche: 19,216 versus more than 32 thousand. Volkswagen already announces plans to use innovative optics on more compact crossovers.
There is no longer a decorative overlay at the junction of the door and the front fender: for cars in the R-Line version, there is now just a laconic letter. The lower air intake has become larger, but the rear bumper has not been changed.
But with the restyling, the Touareg also received a reconfigured chassis. Engineers say they changed the air suspension settings to reduce body roll in sport mode and increase ride comfort in comfort mode. The steel springs are also new.
Touareg R. Before (blue car) – now
In addition, a separate sensor appeared on the roof, which determines the degree of loading. Thanks to him, the stability control system will adapt to the weight distribution of the car: if you install a roof rack, the auxiliary electronics will more actively suppress slips and rolls.
In the cabin, changes are minimal. The small screen of the multimedia system was completely abandoned: now, even in the initial configurations, a 15-inch touchscreen will be installed. The armrests and center tunnel are softer (customers requested), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now wireless, and the voice assistant has been refined and more useful. The charging power of USB-C connectors has increased from 15 to 45 watts.
Unlike the Cayenne, the updated Tuareg did not increase the output of the power units. As before, the Touareg will be offered in Europe with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel (231 or 286 hp), petrol (340 hp) and as part of a hybrid powertrain in the top R version (462 hp). . With.). All motors work in conjunction with an 8-speed “automatic” and 4Motion all-wheel drive system. For the Touareg R, a new shade gray with a matte effect will also be available.
The updated crossovers will arrive at European dealers on June 22. Prices have already been announced. The initial equipment will be available for 69.2 thousand euros without options, the Elegance version will cost at least 75.1 thousand euros, and the R-Line – 79.7 thousand euros. The price of the plug-in hybrid Touareg R will start from 93.9 thousand euros.
