Remember the ID concept. Life, which Volkswagen showed a year and a half ago? Then the concern was thinking about how to attract the attention of a young audience to the brand, and solved the problem in a caricature by placing a huge screen for TV shows and video games on the front panel. According to rumors, part of the management considered ID. Life is not serious, so it was decided to develop another prototype of the “people’s electric car”. And here is the result.
ID. 2all (read as to all – “for everyone”) is built on the MEB Entry platform, that is, on a simplified modification of the “trolley” of all Volkswagen ID models. The Germans say that the task was to create a car “spacious like a Golf and inexpensive like a Polo”, so the only electric motor (166 kW / 226 hp) is located on the front axle, and a semi-independent beam is installed at the rear.
ID. 2all (4050 x 1812 x 1530 mm) is slightly shorter, wider and taller than the current Polo hatchback, while the wheelbase of the electric vehicle is longer (2600 mm). Thanks to all the tricks, the engineers managed to free up space for a 490-liter trunk: this is 110 liters more than the Golf.
It is stated that the designers tried to make the appearance of ID. 2all is friendly (the intentions to abandon the aggression in the appearance of their cars were also reported to Audi), and the shape of the C-pillar inherits the very first Golf. 20-inch wheels (the concept is shod with Continental PremiumContact 6 tires in the dimension 225/40 R20) are unlikely to migrate to the production model due to the heaviness and high cost. But IQ.Light matrix optics and Travel Assist adaptive cruise control are promised.
According to the accelerating dynamics ID. 2all is comparable to the 207-horsepower Polo GTI (claimed “less than 7 seconds to 100 km / h”), however, the maximum speed of the hydrocarbon hatchback is much higher: to protect the traction battery, Volkswagen set a limiter at 160 km/h. The capacity of the lithium-ion battery located under the floor is not indicated, but the Germans are counting on a range of 450 km in the WLTP cycle. Charging from 10% to 80% from a “fast” DC terminal will take about 20 minutes.
Apparently ID. 2all The head of Volkswagen’s passenger division, Thomas Schaefer, likes it better
The layout of the cabin is traditional: to fall apart on the folded backs of the front seats and play the console, as in ID. Life, it won’t work. Apparently, the serial ID.2 will receive a 12-inch screen of the multimedia system from the “older” models, but there will be even fewer physical switches. The transmission selector is located on the steering column. A navigator will be “wired” into the central screen, which will be able to build routes based on the available charging stations.
The premiere of the Volkswagen ID.2 will take place in 2025. Brand representatives claim that the starting price will be below 25 thousand euros, that is, in fact, the “two” will compete with the frankly budget Dacia Spring, while the direct analogue in the face of the Peugeot e-208 now costs 10 thousand euros more. At the same time, the ID.2 will not be the cheapest battery-powered Volkswagen for long: by 2026, a model with a starting price of “less than 20,000 euros” will debut.
