In its third generation, the Cayenne crossover remains Porsche’s most commercially successful model, with 95,600 vehicles sold worldwide over the past year, many of them in China. Now it is the Celestial Empire that is the largest market for Porsche, and therefore it is not surprising that the premiere of the restyled family was timed to coincide with the opening of a motor show in Shanghai.
Up front, the updated Cayennes are most easily identified by their larger LED headlight housings. Matrix optics are now in the “base”, and headlights with the HD prefix will be available for an extra charge: this is a recent development by Hella, which, using ultra-small LED pixels (there are more than 32 thousand of them in each headlight of the Cayenne), allows you to draw tips and pictograms on the road.

The rear light no longer narrows in the center: for this, the license plate frame of the crossover moved to the bumper (the Cayenne Coupe had this layout from the beginning). The Germans also revised the range of rims: new options are promised with a diameter of 20, 21 and 22 inches.
The basic spring suspension is the same, while the optional PASM air suspension uses new dual-chamber cylinders with two valves per chamber. Porsche claims that the difference between Normal, Sport and Sport Plus modes has become more noticeable: the updated Cayenne swallows bumps better and rolls less in high-speed corners.
The salon is completely new and is based on the Taycan electric car. A 10.9-inch touchscreen passenger display will be available as an option for the first time for the Cayenne. A special film limits the viewing angle: the far screen is not visible from the driver’s seat, so you can watch movies on it even on the move. The central screen of the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) multimedia system is larger than that of an electric car: 12.3 inches versus 10.9.
Interior: it was – it became
The central tunnel is completely new: the “automatic” selector is now located to the right of the instrument panel, thanks to which it was possible to free up space for an additional compartment for small luggage and a new “climate” control unit. However, unlike the Taykan, the updated crossover is not fully touch-sensitive and has five toggle switches. Starting the engine is now carried out not by a rotary toggle switch, but by a simple button.
The steering wheel from the Porsche 911 with thinner spokes and a road mode selector is now standardly offered for the crossover, and the designers also abandoned the thin horizontal slats of the air ducts (the Taikan does not have them either). A cooled compartment for a smartphone with inductive charging has appeared in the central tunnel (the temperature is chosen in such a way as to keep the smartphone battery in optimal condition; the charging power reaches 15 W). There are also four additional USB-C connectors (two in the front of the cabin and two in the rear) with support for fast charging.
This is probably the last Cayenne with internal combustion engines (the fourth generation of the crossover will be built on the PPE electric platform), so Porsche decided to finally increase the output of all versions. The 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine in the base Cayenne now develops 353 hp. With. and 500 Nm instead of 340 hp. With. and 450 Nm for the pre-reform model. Cayenne S modifications completely changed the engine: instead of a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 (440 hp, 550 Nm) under the hood, there is now a 4.0-liter V8 in the most “strangled” version: 474 hp. With. and 600 Nm. As a result, the acceleration time to “hundreds” was reduced from 4.9 to 4.7 s, and the maximum speed increased from 263 to 273 km / h.
Porsche Cayenne S Coupe
The Cayenne E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid got its electric motor power raised from 100 to 130 kW, but the petrol 3.0 V6 (340 hp) seems to have remained the same, since the peak power of the unit has increased from 462 to only 470 hp. With. On the other hand, the useful capacity of the traction battery has increased from 17.9 to 25.9 kWh, thanks to which the range in all-electric mode now reaches 90 km.
Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe
The 4.0-liter V8 in the extreme version of the Cayenne Turbo GT now produces 659 hp. With. (versus 640 hp for a pre-styling car). The torque indicator has not changed (850 Nm), as well as the acceleration time to “hundreds” (3.3 s). The maximum speed has increased from 300 to 305 km/h. True, not everyone will be able to appreciate the innovations: in some markets – including Europe, Japan, India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan – the Turbo GT version will be removed from sales in order to comply with local environmental requirements.
Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT
Soon, the updated Cayennes will be installed on the assembly line of the plant in Bratislava. In the near future, Porsche will also introduce diesel versions and, probably, the Cayenne GTS with the “eight”, which will take place between the Cayenne S and Turbo. By the way, the next generation electric crossovers will also be assembled in Slovakia.
