The fifth generation of the most popular hybrid on the planet will be released on November 16th.

The Japanese are good at keeping secrets. Five days before the premiere of the new Prius, images of the car did not hit the Web – apart from the published teaser and spy photos, where the prototype of the fifth generation hybrid is sealed in camouflage film.
The teaser shows that the future Prius will get C-shaped headlights, like some models of the Crown family. And spy photos make it clear that the novelty will receive a more squat body for the sake of aerodynamics (the fourth-generation car has a drag coefficient Cd = 0.24).
At the same time, we did not notice other modern solutions for improving aerodynamics (for example, retractable door handles or mirror housings with a mount below the window line) in the photo of the pre-production Prius.
According to rumors, there will be no technical revolution, although Toyota uses the slogan “Hybrid Reborn” for the premiere of the fifth generation hybrid. It is expected that the car will retain the TNGA-C platform with a MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link rear, as well as a power plant based on a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated four (the current generation uses a 2ZR-FXE engine) and a lithium-ion traction battery. The fourth-generation hybrid consumes 3.5 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, and the Japanese have already announced plans to significantly improve this result.

The current Toyota Prius has been in service since 2015. In 2018, the model was restyled

The YouTube premiere of the new Toyota Prius will begin at 7:30 Moscow time and will be conducted in English: the United States has been and remains the main market for the Prius. But even there, sales are far from record-breaking: in the first 10 months of 2022, less than 30,000 new hybrid liftbacks were registered in the United States, while in the 2010s, the Japanese managed to sell more than 200,000 Priuses annually.
