The Togliatti auto giant AvtoVAZ does not plan to resume production of the Lada XRAY hatchback.

This was announced by AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov in an interview with the TASS agency as part of the Eastern Economic Forum.

As the reason for such a decision, he named too high a share of imported components in the design of the car.
“The short answer is never. We do not plan to resume its production, since too large a set of auto components used in this car is blocked for deliveries today,” M. Sokolov said in response to a journalist’s question about when the production of the XRAY model could be resumed.
As for the Vesta model, according to the AvtoVAZ president, it will return to the production range of the enterprise in the first half of 2023 – the updated Vesta will be put on the conveyor in Togliatti next spring. At the end of 2022 – beginning of 2023, as M. Sokolov told TASS, it is planned to resume production of the Lada Largus station wagon.
The Russian premiere of the Lada XRAY hatchback took place, recall, in 2014 as part of the Moscow International Motor Show. The car is built on the platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance; structurally, it is the closest “relative” of the Renault Sandero Stepway. At the end of 2018, sales of the “off-road” version of X-Ray, the Lada XRAY Cross, started in Russia.
