Frankly, we thought that the next Omoda in Russia would be the more expensive Arrizo 8 sedan, because the Chinese are positioning the new sub-brand as a replacement for German and Japanese brands. But just the departure of the latter, as well as the Koreans, has created an acute shortage of budget sedans in our market, so in the spring we will see a wave of Chinese “four-doors”: along with Geely Emgrand 7 New and Kaiyi E5, Russian dealers will have Omoda S5.
If the coupe-shaped C5 SUV made its debut in Russia less than a year after the world premiere, then the Omoda S5 sedan is a well-deserved veteran, even though it has experienced several updates and facelifts over the eight years of its conveyor life.
In China, the model debuted in 2015 under the name Chery Arrizo 5. A later modification of the Arrizo 5 Plus (which formed the basis of Omoda) is sold outside of China as the Arrizo 6 Pro.
Age gives a small distance between the axles – 2650 mm (and, as a result, long overhangs). At the same time, the car is longer (4644 mm), wider (1814 mm) and higher (1493 mm) than the Kia Cerato, and the four-door Corolla surpasses the S5 only in length.
Dynamics is not expected. Under the hood, a 1.5-liter “aspirated” (113 hp, 138 Nm) is installed, which works in conjunction with a variator and front-wheel drive (a semi-independent beam is installed on the rear axle). There will be no versions with turbo engines and mechanical transmissions in Russia. By the way, the same unit on the Arrizo 5 develops 116 hp. With. and 143 Nm.
The main difference between Omoda and Arrizo is in the new front design with a hexagonal radiator grille (one of the two versions of the Arrizo 5 Plus, however, has one), which has a diagonal mesh of thin rods instead of horizontal slats.
The initial configuration will be equipped with 16-inch wheels, and more expensive versions will get R17 wheels. Arrizo 5 Plus equipment includes LED optics, an electronic “handbrake” with AutoHold function, a keyless entry system, heated front seats, cruise control and a multimedia system with a 10.25-inch display.
Prices for Chery Arrizo 5 Plus in China start at 69.9 thousand yuan (734 thousand rubles), and for the most equipped version with an “aspirated” they ask for 83.9 thousand yuan (869 thousand rubles). Given that the Russian price of the Omoda C5 is about two and a half times higher than the Chinese one, we can assume that the S5 will cost a little less than 2 million rubles. Omoda dealers will have the sedans in a few months.
