BMW showed this car as a concept in November 2021. Then the Germans promised that the XM would become the most powerful model in the history of the brand, but the debut version of the hybrid crossover developed only 653 hp. With. and 800 Nm, and was not only the most powerful, but also the slowest of the modern “emoks”: due to the curb weight of 2710 kg, acceleration to 100 km / h takes as much as 4.3 s.
The XM Label Red version still can’t compete in dynamics with Competition sedans and coupes, but it’s already the brand’s fastest crossover: acceleration to “hundreds” has been reduced to 3.8 s, while the updated X5 M and X6 M require one tenth more (pre-styling cars were a little faster due to the lack of a starter-generator).
And it is also the most powerful crossover with internal combustion engines in the history of the global automotive industry: the power plant, consisting of a 4.4-liter V8 with the S68 index and a traction motor, which is built into the body of an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, develops 748 hp. With. and 1000 Nm. The previous record belonged to the 725-horsepower Ferrari Purosangue.
The Label Red has the same electrical power as the standard XM. The output of the electric motor is 145 kW (197 hp) and 280 Nm, the useful capacity of the lithium-ion traction battery is 25.7 kWh (nominal – 29.5 kWh). At the same time, the maximum range in all-electric mode has decreased from 82–88 km in the WLTP cycle to 75–82 km.
The output of the G8 petrol has been increased from 489 hp. With. and 650 Nm up to 585 forces and 750 Newtons: it is likely that the Bavarians decided to keep the most powerful XM for the sake of additional excitement, because there is nothing special about such a boost: on the X5 M Competition, the same engine produces 625 hp. With.
XM Label Red is not only the fastest BMW crossover in the 0-100 discipline, but also the best in terms of top speed: the increased output of the gasoline engine allows you to accelerate to 290 km / h with the optional M Driver’s package (for the regular XM – up to 270 km / h). h; X5/X6 M Competition up to 280 km/h).
The Bavarians did not use the name XM Competition due to the fact that, apart from an increase in power, the new version has no differences from the standard XM (the prefix Competition also indicates a modified chassis).
Here is the same rear axle steering at an angle of up to 2.5 ° and active anti-roll bars (actuators operate from a 48-volt network). Label Red comes standard with M Professional suspension with electronically controlled dampers. All-wheel drive xDrive is implemented: through a multi-plate clutch for connecting the front wheels, an active differential is installed on the rear axle.
Not got the most powerful version and carbon-ceramic brakes. Six-piston M Sport mechanisms are installed at the front, single-piston ones at the rear.
In the photos – XM Label Red in an exclusive version with a red exterior decor (by default, the “nostrils” are black) and Carbon Black matte paint: only 500 crossovers will be produced. 21-inch wheels can be exchanged for a surcharge for 23-inch wheels, and the Individual palette will include more than fifty body colors.
The interior of the special version is trimmed with leather in two colors with contrasting stitching and carbon fiber, but BMW still does not offer velor upholstery on the rear sofa, like in the concept. Between the air deflector adjustment knobs, the serial number of the car from a special series is applied, and another feature of all Label Red without exception will be the “Boost Mode” inscription on the left paddle shifter.
The most powerful XM will be presented live at the Shanghai Motor Show: the Celestial Empire market is one of the most important for the flagship crossover along with the United States and the Middle East. Dealers will start taking orders from April 28, but the price is already known: from $185,000 (large BMW crossovers are assembled in Spartanburg, so the price is the lowest in the US) versus $159,000 for a base XM.
