At the BMW Group plant in Regensburg, Germany, mass production of the iX1 compact electric crossover, built on the basis of the new generation X1, has started.

The launch of the new iX1 series, according to the group’s management, demonstrates the pace at which BMW is accelerating the transition to electric mobility.

In accordance with the plans announced almost two years ago, all the group’s plants in Germany are now able to produce fully electric models. Model iX1 – the most compact in the company’s line of crossovers – is designed, among other things, to increase the volume of electric vehicles produced by BMW.
According to BMW Group board member responsible for production, Milan Nedeljkovic, by 2024 at least one in three brand cars produced in Bavaria will be electric.
According to the results of 2022, as Dvizhok has already reported, the BMW Group doubled sales of electric vehicles: In the first nine months of 2022, sales of BMW and Mini electric vehicles increased by 114.8% compared to last year’s values.
The plant in Regensburg today produces cars with all types of drive – with traditional internal combustion engines, with plug-in hybrid power plants, as well as with all-electric motors – on the same line.
Adjacent to the car assembly plant in Regensburg is a high-voltage battery plant launched in October this year. By the end of this year, it will turn into a full-fledged enterprise for the production of electrical components: the total area of ​​u200bu200bthe plant will reach 45,000 square meters. m, the number of employees will exceed 400 people.
The total investment of the BMW Group in the development of the production of electric drive system components at the sites in Dingolfing, Leipzig and Regensburg will amount to more than 1.6 billion euros by the end of 2022.
