Introduced in September, the C 63 generation W206 is about to go on sale. During the year, the sedan and station wagon will be available in the “F1 Edition” version with special decorations. But what is the “Formula” about?
The Germans explain it this way. Following the “hybridization” of formula cars that began in 2014, road AMGs have also undergone it – so the new C 63, whose power plant consists of a 2.0-liter “turbo-four” and an electric module on the rear axle, represents a new chapter in the history of fast Mercedes. ” and emphasizes the connection between motorsports and cars for public roads.
A small electric motor is installed on the turbocharger shaft (between the turbine and compressor wheels), which is designed to get rid of the turbo lag during a short-term discharge of gas: turbines with an integrated electric drive also appeared thanks to Formula 1 engineers.
That’s just the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E Performance car weighs 795 kg, and the C 63 hybrid sedan weighs as much as 2111 kg (C 63 Estate – 2145 kg). Therefore, instead of turquoise stripes, referring to the livery of Hamilton and Russell cars, red was used on the bumpers and sills: this is the official color of the medical Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4Matic +, whose task is to quickly transport doctors to the accident site at the F1 stages.
Other differences of the special version will be a matte gray body color, along which barely visible letters “AMG” are applied. Standard 20-inch matte black wheels with red rims. The F1 Edition will include the AMG Aerodynamics Package with a larger rear wing and front diffuser, as well as a black exterior paint kit. Plastic fuel filler cap with AMG logo painted in silver.
The interior is trimmed in a combination of black Nappa leather and Dinamica microfiber. By default, bucket seats with seat belts and red stitching are available, and the crest of the Mercedes sports division is placed on the headrests. The interior floor mats are embroidered with Formula 1 logos and the AMG logo is projected onto the ground when the door is opened. Finally, every customer of the C 63 “F1 Edition” will receive a protective case with the logo of the racing series.
The price for the “63rd” of the new generation has not yet been named, but the surcharge for the special version will definitely be tangible. For example, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance in the F1 Edition version immediately costs 23.8 thousand euros more than the starting price.
