Kaiyi E5 sedans, the SKD assembly of which began at the end of January at the Avtotor plant, made their debut on the Russian market, where they are designed to replace similar models of Japanese and Korean brands, such as Toyota Corolla or Hyundai Elantra.
Kaiyi (4670 x 1825 x 1483 mm; wheelbase – 2700 mm; ground clearance and trunk volume are not indicated) are even slightly larger than these models, while instead of a beam typical for this class, a scheme with an independent “multi-link” is used on the rear axle.
The 1.5-liter turbo engine (147 hp, 210) in conjunction with the CVT, which can simulate nine “gears”, was borrowed from Chery models: it is this automaker that is responsible for the development of the brand’s lineup. There will be no all-wheel drive versions, but the manufacturer allows filling AI-92 gasoline, while indicating the maximum Euro-6 environmental class.
So far, only the most expensive version of the Luxury CVT has been presented, which is equipped with LED optics, disc brakes (front with ventilation), electric power steering, an electronic parking brake with AutoHold function, 17-inch wheels and a sunroof. At the same time, instead of climate control, there is a simple air conditioner, and analog devices.
As expected, the price of the sedan was about twice as high as in China. There, for Cowin Xuandu (that’s what the E5 is called at home), they ask from 67.8 to 93.9 thousand yuan, but in our country the most equipped version is estimated at 1,959,000 rubles. Over time, Kaiyi E5 with a 5-speed manual transmission will appear on the market, and in the future, the Avtotor plant range will be replenished with Kaiyi X3 SUVs (similar to Chery Tiggo 4) and more affordable sedans with an atmospheric engine under a different brand.
