The 2023 Car of the Year Jury has named the European Car of the Year – the Jeep Avenger compact crossover, which scored 328 points. 21 out of 57 jury members put the model in first place, the press service of the competition clarified.
In second place is the Volskwagen ID electric minivan. Buzz (241 points; 16 “first places”), in third place is the Nissan Ariya electric crossover (211 points).
Kia Niro (200 points), Renault Austral (163 points), Peugeot 408 (149 points) and Subaru Solterra/Toyota bZ4X (133 points) also took part in the competition.
Despite recognition in the Old World, Avenger is unknown to the American public: the model is built on the CMP platform of the Stellantis alliance and is intended only for the markets of Europe, South Korea and Japan. The production of “Avenger” is established at the alliance’s plant in Poland.
With an overall length of 4076 mm, this is the smallest Jeep introduced in the 21st century. The choice is available as a fully electric version with a motor power of 115 kW (156 hp) and 260 Nm and a 54 kWh traction battery (power reserve – 390 km in the WLTP cycle), and petrol, with 1.2- liter PureTech turbo engine (100 hp, 205 Nm) and six-speed “mechanics”.
For an electric car, they ask for 35.4 thousand euros without options, and the petrol version is available for 23.3 thousand euros: this is the cheapest car among the “seven” contestants. Over time, all-wheel drive hybrid modifications with an electric motor on the rear axle will appear in the range.
