Hybrid Lamborghini Revuelto became the successor of “Aventador”

Lamborghini held its biggest premiere in five years. And if in 2018 the first crossover of the brand saw the light, now we have a direct successor to Miura, Countach, Diablo, Murcielago and Aventador. The prototype of the novelty was index LB744, and the serial version was called Revuelto – and this name has nothing to do with bullfighting.
Revuelto is Spanish for “whipped”. Another name for dishes obtained by mixing ingredients: for example, scrambled eggs (“Revuelto de Huevo”). And this already explains something.

The fact is that Revuelto is the first Lamborghini with a hybrid power plant, except for the piece Sian (63 copies) and Countach LPI 800-4 (112 copies). This is the only way in Sant’Agata Bolognese they were able to keep the naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12, specially designed for the Aventador. The petrol engine, by the way, now has the index L545 instead of L539: there is a new injection system, increased from 11.8:1 to 12.6:1 compression ratio and a cut-off shifted to 9500 rpm. Lamborghini adds that the mass of the engine at the same time was reduced from 235 to 217 kg.

The farewell version of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae produced 780 hp. With. and 720 Nm, and on the Revuelto the return increased to 825 hp. With. and 725 Nm. And this is only a gasoline engine, because the new hypercar has three more electric ones!
Both front wheels have an electric motor with a peak output of 110 kW (150 hp) and 350 Nm. This is part of a new system that the Italians called E-4WD: electronically transfers torque between the front motors to increase the stability of the car in corners. The rear wheels can steer up to 3°.

The central tunnel is preserved, but instead of the driveshaft, a lithium-ion traction battery with a capacity of 3.8 kWh is hidden under it. Therefore, the Revuelto’s V12 engine is turned box-to-back: the 8-speed “automatic” is almost completely located in the rear overhang. The third electric motor (100 kW, 150 Nm) is installed in the gearbox housing and can both rotate the rear wheels and open the clutch and switch to the starter-generator mode to recharge the battery and start the gasoline engine.

Electrification has had a detrimental effect on dry weight: relative to the Aventador Ultimae, it has grown from 1550 to 1772 kg, the rear axle accounts for 56% of the car’s weight. However, the power-to-weight ratio of the Revuelto is still higher, because the peak output of the four-engine unit is 1015 hp. With.!
The first “hundred” in the most extreme Corsa mode, the new hypercar is gaining in 2.5 seconds – three tenths faster than the most powerful version of the Aventador. Accelerate to 200 km/h can be “faster than seven seconds” (against 8.7 for Aventador Ultimae), the maximum speed exceeds 350 km/h. Dynamic characteristics are indicated only taking into account a fully charged battery, so future owners will have to monitor this parameter.

The Italians abandoned the suspension with horizontal shock absorbers – the Revuelto used a double-lever scheme on both axles. At the same time, the front anti-roll bars became 11% stiffer, and the rear ones – 50%. The electric power steering has been recalibrated, making the responses 10% sharper.
It’s also the first Lamborghini that can be driven in front-wheel drive: in the Citta’s electric mode, which uses only the front engines, the battery will last for 10 km. The stabilization system remains alert and on slippery surfaces can connect the rear electric motor or, in extreme cases, the internal combustion engine. The hybrid hypercar’s claimed carbon footprint is 30% lower than its gasoline predecessor.
An eight-speed “automatic” (the last gear is needed only to save fuel) with two “wet” clutches and replaced the robotic “mechanics” Graziano. According to the assurances of the Italians, it weighs only 193 kg and shifts gears even faster. However, with the help of the internal combustion engine, Revuelto can only drive forward: the reverse gear of the novelty is completely electric.

In total, there are four basic driving modes (except for Citta and Corsa, these are “intermediate” Strada and Sport for public roads) and several separate settings for torque distribution between the axles and brake energy recovery for Strada, Sport and Corsa presets.
The increased mass forced Lamborghini to install more efficient carbon-ceramic brakes. Ten-piston mechanisms with 410 mm discs are installed on the front axle, and four-piston calipers and 390 mm discs are installed on the rear axle. The stock wheels are the same diameter (20 inches front, 21 inches rear), but the Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires are now wider: 265/35 R20 at the front and 345/30 R21 at the rear. An inch larger rims will be available for a surcharge.

Lamborghini chief designer Mitya Borkert says the team’s task was to give the driver and front passenger the feel of a spaceship. The wedge-shaped body is replete with Y-shaped elements (this is not only LED optics, but also side air intakes), which were introduced by Huracan Tecnica.
Compared to the farewell Aventador, the novelty is 79 mm longer (4947 mm), 65 mm narrower (2033 mm excluding mirrors), 24 mm higher (1160 mm), and the length of the overhangs has not changed, because the distance between the axles has been increased by the same 79 mm (up to 2779 mm). The lifting wing has three modes and, in combination with other aerodynamic elements, can generate 66% more downforce than the Aventador Ultimae’s feathers. Of course, guillotine doors – a family feature of all cars with V12 – have not gone away.
Keeping the mass within reasonable limits was achieved by a full carbon monocoque with a front subframe molded from resin-impregnated short carbon fiber: this is the company’s own development, dating back to the late 2000s. Compared to a similar aluminum part, the Revuelto subframe dampens vibrations twice as well and weighs 20% less. In general, the “mono-fuselage” (this is how the new structure is called in Lamborghini) is 10% lighter than the Aventador chassis, and its torsional rigidity is a quarter higher (40,000 Nm / deg).

The new layout of the power unit made it possible to make the interior more spacious: the distance from the seat cushion to the ceiling increased by 26 mm, and 84 mm were added to the legs. Behind the backs of the chairs there was even a place for a small compartment where you can attach a bag with golf clubs.
There are three monitors on the front panel: a 12.3-inch instrument panel, an 8.4-inch vertical touchscreen and a separate 9.1-inch screen for the front passenger, which can use it to control the media system. The steering wheel with a small hub (in 12 years, airbags have learned to place more compactly) was inspired by motorsport, and the seats are upholstered in a combination of natural leather and Corsa-Tex microfiber (all sorts of color combinations will be available), which is used in the manufacture of recycled materials. The set of electronic assistants includes adaptive cruise control with lane control and a collision avoidance system when reversing.

Sales of the new hypercar will begin in the second half of 2023, but it will not be easy to buy a car even if you have the necessary amount: the queue of pre-orders has already stretched for two years. Traditionally, the cost has not been announced, but we expect the initial price tag to be around 400,000 euros. And the next hybrid from Lamborghini will be a rechargeable version of the Urus.
