It’s noticeably cheaper than the all-electric bZ4X, though it uses the internal combustion engine only in extreme cases.

The most powerful and expensive version of the fifth-generation Prius liftback, introduced at the end of last year, has appeared on the Japanese market. Previously, sales of conventional hybrids have already begun in Japan, the price of which starts at 2.75 million yen (1.53 million rubles). By the way, the main bet has been made on the HEV modification in Japan: Toyota plans to sell 4.3 thousand conventional Priuses per month and only 430 plug-in ones.

With the change in generation, we recall that the plug-in hybrid has become significantly more powerful. A combination of a 2.0-liter gasoline engine (148 hp) and a separate electric motor on the rear axle (118 kW) develops 223 hp. sec., which allows you to accelerate to “hundreds” in 6.7 s. A 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery is installed under the rear sofa: “shod” in regular 17-inch Prius PHEV wheels, it can travel 105 km without the help of an internal combustion engine (87 km with R19 wheels). Toyota says that in urban operation it is quite possible to get by with electricity alone (the battery is charged by regenerative braking).

The plug-in hybrid will be available only in the most equipped configuration, so the price is much higher: 4.6 million yen (2.55 million rubles). For comparison, the most expensive Prius HEV with a hybrid installation based on a 2.0-liter engine (total output – 193 hp) in Japan costs 3.92 million yen (2.17 million rubles). However, the all-electric Toyota bZ4X crossover, even in the front-wheel drive version, will be more expensive than the most fancy Prius (from 6 million yen).
