As part of the opening of SPIEF-2023, the official premiere of the first Lada car based on the Chinese model took place. X-Cross 5, we recall, is a seamless copy of the FAW Bestune T77 crossover, which has been on sale in Russia since 2021. The press service of AvtoVAZ told us that the production of the X-Cross 5 at the Lada St. Petersburg plant (formerly Nissan Manufacturing Rus) will begin on June 17, that is, three days later than the deadline announced by Maxim Sokolov.
For some time, X-Cross 5 will be the largest model in the Lada line (Bestune T77 dimensions are 4525 x 1845 x 1615 mm; wheelbase is 2700 mm). Ground clearance is 180 mm, all-wheel drive is not provided (rear torsion beam). Trunk volume – 375 liters.
Under the hood of the Bestune T77 is a 1.5 turbo engine that is not very profitable in terms of taxation, which develops 160 hp. With. and 258 Nm and can be aggregated with a 6-speed manual gearbox or with a 7-speed “robot” with two clutches.
Alas, the exact technical data of the novelty AvtoVAZ has not yet given. For example, it is not clear whether 150 liters will be tax-beneficial. With. the turbo engine was derated, because this will reduce the amount of the annual payment from 8 to 5.25 thousand rubles.
And, apparently, the same car was brought to SPIEF, which was shown at a dealer presentation in Sochi in April. In any case, not only the color is the same for crossovers, but also the FAW emblem on the steering wheel hub: they still haven’t managed to fit the VAZ boat there.
It is planned to produce 10,000 Lada cars in St. Petersburg by the end of the year (the production capacity of the site is 100,000 cars per year). At first, the assembly will be carried out using the “screwdriver” method from Chinese car kits, however, in the medium term, the AvtoVAZ management plans to switch to full-cycle production, with body welding and painting.
The second model is already known, which will be produced at the former Nissan plant under the Lada brand. This is a large FAW Bestune B70 liftback (4810 x 1840 x 1455 mm, wheelbase – 2800 mm), which has already been noticed on the territory of the AvtoVAZ scientific and technical center in Togliatti.
The cost of the models has not yet been announced, however, SKD will not bring down the price significantly: we expect the initial price of X-Cross 5 to be slightly higher than 2 million rubles (Bestune T77 costs 2.17 million rubles in the configuration with “mechanics”), and more a large liftback will be offered for 2.5–2.8 million.
